The Annual Meeting of the Klinger Lake Association was held on Sunday, August 3rd at the Klinger Lake Country Club. The four board members recommended by the nominating committee for 3-year terms were elected. They include Larry Harker, Carol Preble, Ken Rhodes, and Bob Spillar.
One of the items discussed at the meeting was the problem of various kinds of trash being deposited into the lake. Everyone's cooperation is required to keep our lake in pristine condition! The board will be looking into various ways to revitalize the "KEEP KLINGER CLEAN" campaign we had some time ago. Residents can help by making sure their guests, renters, and workmen are told that no trash of any kind must ever go into the lake! This includes grass clippings, leaves, and other lawn debris.
To further this effort, we have added a new web page focusing on the environment and water quality. Please check the other sections of our web site for updates and new information generated as a result of questions and reports presented at the meeting!
A message from the Klinger Lake Fireworks Committee We hope everyone enjoyed this year's fireworks! The date for the 2009 fireworks celebration has not been set yet. We will let you know as soon as it has been determined. (The Klinger Lake Fireworks Committee is not affiliated with the Klinger Lake Association). |

Earlier this year Waste Management changed their Klinger Lake pick up day from Monday to Friday. Many of you, especially residents who come only on weekends, expressed concern that their garbage would now remain at curbside for an entire week before being picked up. Since this is a lake-wide problem, the Association decided to see if something could be done.
The Association contacted Waste Management and was unable to convince them to revert back to the Monday pick up time. We then called other disposal services. We were able to interest Michiana Recycling & Disposal in offering a Monday pick up service for Klinger Lake. Since Klinger Lake will be a new territory for them they will be offering the service starting August 1, which will give them time to organize their staff. Michiana handles many locations around the area, including Diamond Lake and Lake Templene. They also are offering a recycling service.Currently, residents of Klinger Lake have no collection bin to drop off their recyclables. Sturgis has gone to curb side service and removed their collection bins. At the end of June, Which Pigeon and Constantine removed their recycling bins because of people using them as garbage containers.
Below are the details of the Michiana collection service as well as the recycling information:
Michiana Recycling & Disposal
800-722-9710
Cost is $16 per month, which includes a 95 gallon container. An additional 5 plasticbags will be picked up at no additional charge.
Pick up on Mondays.
Service beginning August 1st.
Recycling Service
Michiana offers a curb side recycling service, which will be picked up at the same time as your garbage. They will pick up the following products: newspapers and brown paper bags, clear bottles and jars, aluminum and tin cans, plastic #1 and #2 bottles and jugs, and cardboard boxes. There is a $2 service fee and you must pay for a year in advance. You will receive a sleeve of 12 yellow recycling bags after your payment, with instructions for use. You can contact Michiana with any further questions.
I wish to emphasize that you are under no obligation to change your collection service. The Association is offering this information since there were many residents concerned over the Friday pickup. It is another option to consider. I think we are all concerned with having garbage sit around for a long period after a weekend of entertaining. Hopefully, this will help solve that problem.
